Protect your site from spam and automated scripts by configuring services like Akismet and reCAPTCHA (anti-spam and anti-bot configuraion). These solutions detect suspicious behavior and prompt additional verification to ensure real users can interact with your site.
Spam and bots settings
Akismet
Overview: Akismet is a hosted service that analyzes data to detect spam automatically. Originally developed for WordPress comments, it can also protect your Osclass site if you supply a valid API key. Akismet has also some free limits for non-business users and personal projects.
API Key: Enter a key obtained from Akismet’s website. Without this key, Akismet remains disabled and cannot filter spam for your forms.
Validation Messages:
Valid key: You’ll see a confirmation that your key is working.
Invalid key: Double-check you copied it correctly.
Key missing: Akismet will remain disabled until you add one.
ReCaptcha v2 Tickbox
Note that ReCaptcha today is not 100% protection to your forms. Consider using more advanced and sophisticated system like Anti-spam plugin.
What It Does: Shows the well-known “I’m not a robot” checkbox to deter bots. Users must confirm they are human before submitting forms (e.g., registration, item posting).
Enable ReCaptcha on Forms: Checking this option activates reCAPTCHA on various Osclass forms, including user registration, contact, and item publish/edit.
API Keys:
Site Key: Placed in the front-end to display the challenge to users.
Secret Key: Used server-side to verify the user’s response. Never reveal it publicly.
Testing: If reCAPTCHA is enabled and keys are correctly entered, you’ll see the checkbox widget in your Osclass admin test. No errors or warnings means your integration is successful.
After entering your keys and options, click Save changes. You can use both Akismet and reCAPTCHA for stronger spam defense, but each service requires appropriate configuration and valid API credentials.
